📚Book Recommendations of the month from BBB!
Feel-good : "Pippi Longstocking" by Astrid Lindgren (1945)
Pippi Longstocking is the ultimate free spirit. With her mismatched stockings, superhuman strength, and a house all to herself, she defies convention and lives life on her own terms. Astrid Lindgren's 1945 classic is a joyful celebration of independence, friendship, and the magic of childhood.
Perfect for anyone who loves a whimsical, feel-good read.
Mystery : “And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie (1939)
Ten strangers. A remote island. One chilling nursery rhyme. In this gripping mystery by the Queen of Crime, ten seemingly unconnected individuals are lured to an isolated island under false pretenses. Stranded without means of escape, they discover they are being targeted by an unseen assailant, punished for past sins they believed long buried 👀. As panic sets in and suspicion mounts, the group dwindles one by one, following the ominous pattern of a sinister children’s rhyme.
Non-fiction : “The End of your Life Book Club” by Will Schwalbe (2012)
“Mary Anne Schwalbe becomes sick after she returns from a trip to Afghanistan. While it’s usual for that to happen, it becomes concerning when she remains sick for a while. When Will is at a book fair abroad, he gets the news that she might have cancer. The book describes her journey from that moment till her final moments. The Schwalbes have always been avid readers. Mary Anne and Will love opening lines of novels, talk about books they read etc. They begin deciding on a book they both will read, so they can talk about it when they meet during her doctor’s appointments. Thus is formed an impromptu two-member book club.”
This was more than an excellent sell for this month’s non-fiction recommendation from BBB. For a full review to read, here’s our co-organizer Vinay Leo’s blogpost.
